Online counselling for adults · Aotearoa NZ

Counselling with room for the whole story.

Whoever you are, whoever you love,
you’re welcome here.

For identity, relationships, burnout, and the effort of holding it all together. There is no rush to explain it all. We slow down so you can be heard, and the way forward can take its time.

You do not have to know exactly what to say.

Explore how I work
Vince Batters

I’m part of the rainbow community. I bring that lived experience to our work, without assuming your story is the same as mine.

Meet Vince

You bring your story. I help you work with it.

You can bring yourself as you are, without being judged for it. I bring close attention and curiosity; we decide together what is useful.

I spent twenty years in IT and quality assurance. If you can explain your situation perfectly but still feel stuck inside it, I recognise that gap.

Get to know me
  1. Understand the pattern.

I listen closely, ask questions, and help connect what is happening now with what keeps happening.

  2. Make room for the feeling.

We can pause with what comes up, rather than explain it away. Sometimes what matters most is what has not been said.

  3. Find a workable next step.

Healing is rarely a straight line, and the way forward does not have to show itself straight away. When it does, we try it and check whether it helps in your life.

How it works

A first conversation. A shared direction.

You choose whether to continue. If you do, we work out the focus together and keep checking what is useful.

  1. You book a free intro chat

15 minutes to meet me, ask questions, and decide whether you would like to work together.

  2. We agree a shared direction

We explore what brings you here and what you would like to be different. We agree where to start.

  3. We work, reflect, and adjust

50-minute sessions to understand patterns, explore choices, and make room for what is hard to say.

Camera off, notes, pauses and time to think are welcome. See what a session is like.

Common questions

A few things you may want to know.

View all FAQs
Is counselling confidential?+
Yes, with legal and ethical limits. I explain these clearly before we begin and revisit them as needed.
What is your current professional status?+
I have completed my Bachelor of Health Science in Counselling at AUT. I am a Student Affiliate member of NZAC, awaiting provisional membership, with over 200 hours of clinically supervised counselling experience. I receive 1 hour of supervision for every 10 hours of client work.
How do online sessions work?+
Sessions happen over a secure Google Meet video call. Your calendar invite is anonymised, so nothing on your calendar names counselling. It simply says something like “Meeting with John”. You join from a quiet, private space, and we take it from there.
Do you work with neurodivergent clients?+
Yes. Notes, scripts, stimming, silence, and camera-off are all fine, and you do not have to explain why you want any of them. I keep the process predictable, say what is happening next rather than leaving you to guess, and you can have anything important in writing.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients?+
I’m part of the rainbow community. I bring that lived experience to our work, without assuming your story is the same as mine. LGBTQ+ and takatāpui clients are welcome, as are adults from every background. Identity can be central to our work, one part of it, or not what we talk about at all.
